It's not the NBA now. It's the NDA. No Defense Allowed. It's now like Harlem Globetrotters vs Washington Generals every night. 1.Weak ass defensive Rules have negated negated physical defense and rebounding and increased 3 point shooting protection. 2. These new rules allow referees to further impact the outcomes of games and now Even playoffs and NBA finals. 3. This allows the NBA through the referees to fix games even more than ever. It allows the NBA to create and control to thier liking there own money making revenue generating superstars and marketable teams. This past finals with Bucks winning is proof. The refs let Jrue Holiday horse collar Chris Paul. The refs Allowed PJ Tucker to hack Devin Booker. That's all great but on the flip side DeAndre Ayton was not allowed by the refs after game 2 to play any defense or even breathe on Gianis. Fact. Refs rigged Finals.

It's not a lack of defensive effort. It's that playing defense is now illegal. If you're within 3 ft of a shooter, it's a foul.

I think the zero step and the officials allowing the star players to do whatever they want, like travelling or throwing themselves at defenders to get fouls, added to what you said in the video, explain why we're seeing more scoring than ever

I miss old NBA. Games are kind of boring now imo. Fouls are incredibly light, basketball without defense isn't basketball. I'd rather watch Allen Iverson throw is body on the line for a layup than watch Curry drop 3s Most importantly: the three seconds in the pain rule...

He made the point about everyone gets to eat. Just because scoring has increased doesn’t mean scoring a lot isn’t impressive. Since everybody are scoring more, top scorers are still amazing players in their own right, and their numbers should be respected. It might be better if they start to show stats along the line of OBS+ for PPG, adjusting the player’s performance against league’s average, to show how players today can be as dominant to everyone else as player’s back then.

You're falling into a trap. You say that big men today are more skilled because they can shoot jump shots. I would argue that big men of old were far more talented and skilled. Go look at the post moves I'm an Olajuwan or a Robinson or Kevin McHale and tell me today's big men are more talented and skilled. Today's big men can jump shoot. That's all they can do. The amount of damage that a skilled post player could do in today's NBA would be ridiculous. Since no one can defend in the post, a big man with good offensive footwork and some amount of touch around the basket would score on every trip. As for ISO players breaking down their man, that is only the case because of the changing definition of traveling and carrying. Almost every modern ball handler commits a carry multiple times on every possession. It is almost unwatchable these days. Add to that the whole BS about gathering the mall. James harden travels every time he shoots. So does almost everyone else. It isn't that players today are more talented or more skilled it simply they're allowed to use techniques that are clearly illegal, but the refs don't call it.

The NBA is such a joke now a days. Defense will literally never catch up because once a strategy works the commissioner will just ban it. Happened with Rodman, happened with Wilt and happened to 90s-early 00s defense. You can't even flaunt without possibly getting a technical

one thing i think you missed on the Tony Parker comparision is that he may have shot 52% because he wasnt taking those outside shots often. id say his PPG would be closer to 24-24.5 but hey point still stands. Ray Allen took 5.7 3PA so i could just imagine the numbers he wouldve posted.

theres no reason any team should be averaging 110-120ppg. it's a lot to do with what defenses are allowed to do but i think most of it is lazy a$$ defending and guys not putting in effort. you see a lot of dudes standing around letting guys take perimeter shots literally letting them. it happens every game. also nobody wants to get posterized so if the defense get's out of position and they see a guy getting ready to go up for a dunk they don't even try for the block they just let dude slam it home. stuff like that is pure lazy/ego no effort.

I think lack of defense has way more impact on the scoring explosion than anything offenses are doing. When there is almost no competition defensively and for some reason this myth of more scoring = better game in an already high scoring sport it leads to where we are at now. I guarantee if we had early 2000s era defense the scoring would be in the 100s roughly 30 points lower than the 130 plus scoring games. That's how handicapped I feel like defense is

I always wondered what MJ would have been able to do in this league in his prime years. He would have been properly scary indeed. I think you hit the nail on the head though. Offensive tools keep getting better but defensive tools seem to get smaller. Defense is all about disrupting offensive rhythm so when you don't have the tools to do that of course you're not going to be as capable of stopping scorers.

I see an argument over jordan averaging more than 40 in the recent NBA era. For the millenials out there, MJ practically averaged 40 in 1987 when he averaged more the 37 points. 2nd, people were saying MJ would average 40 in the 2010s before the recent explosion in scoring. So, in short, MJ would easily score 40 in today's NBA. Finally, MJ selected to work on his midrange fadeaway because it made sense in that era because he had to deal with handchecking and he also would get more free throws from touch fouls. If jordan played in a league where u cant touch a shooter, he would be shooting 40-45% from 3. Let's not hide the sun with our fingertips the man is the greatest team sports athlete of all time.

Pretty funny to watch this after team USA just dropped its 2nd exhibition game in a row… NBA talent struggles when the refs don’t call BS ticky-tack fouls. I appreciate the position-less basketball and expanding skill sets of all NBA players today, but the product the NBA puts on TV is very different than a game of basketball played at the park… they’re barely even the same game anymore.

Steve Nash being anything but TRASH was product of the hand checking rule change, and when a defensive player is allowed to put hands on his opponent a small guy with very little skills (like Nash) is of course going to have a much better career than he otherwise would with players who could and would lock him down and push him right where they want him to be. The rule changes in general have allowed offensive players to flourish a lot more, and as far as the actual rules of the game go nearly every single player is committing a travel about every time they have the ball in their hands.
