10:20 Goaltending was illegal before Mikan. But they did widen the lane from the key-hole shape because of him. The Chamberlain dunk-from-the-foul line may be a myth but, again, they widened the lane because of him. And they made a rule penalizing off-ball fouls. And a revision, or maybe an invention. of the rule against offensive goaltending. And... I think there were others. And for Alcindor (Abdul Jabbar) the college game outlawed dunking...

8:45 This "double step back" is clearly a travel. Harden has clearly gathered the ball before his left foot first strikes the ground, so the second time it does so is step#3.

Last I looked there is no "zero step" in the RULES. What you put on screen ("The zero step refers...") is official, but it is official COMMENTARY, not a rule. And what it MEANS is not at all clear. The NBA is simply bad at this. When the rule was rewritten in 2007 (iirc) the league declared that they were just updating the rules to reflect the fact that the game was not being officiated in accord with the then-current rulebook, and that nothing about officiating would change. Relaxed (if I am kind) interpretation of "travel" had been an obnoxious CHOICE for many years (progressively worse since some time in the '60s or early '70s). But they were wrong about the new wording. It allowed all sorts of things that had never been allowed, and Harden more than any other proceeded to demonstrate this. I can't blame him. HE didn't do the rewrite, he just thought more clearly than the league about what they had written and acted on his insights. Now, the "zero step" at 8:00 is only a "zero step", i.e. doesn't count towards the allowed two steps, IF the foot in on the floor BEFORE the ball is gathered. If it lands even infinitesimally after the gather it counts as the first step of the two. How hard is it for you to produce the photo of either the foot on the ground before Harden cups the ball or the photo of the ball being cupped before the foot touches? Because THAT s what might show whether what he did was legal or a violation. The instance you chose is not the best to see this, even if you set the video to run at .25. I say "might" because it's not actually clear when the gather counts as having taken place. Is it when the cupping hand touches the ball, or is when the player "gains control" of the ball somehow different than that? Because current and long-standing obnoxious practice allows ball-cupping followed by resumption of the dribble it's really hard or maybe even arbitrary how you decide this. 9:23 JH here gets things entirely backasswards. He says "Gather, zero step..." NO! If the "zero step" is AFTER the gather, then you have to count it and it's not a "zero step"! The RULE gives you a two-count after the gather. THAT is what the (newish) RULE says. Frankly it's absurd to make this video and quote obnly the commentary and not the actual rule, so here it is: "[Rule 10] Section XIII—Traveling ... b. A player who gathers the ball while dribbling may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing, or shooting the ball.     1) The first step occurs when a foot, or both feet, touch the floor after gaining control of the ball. [If this isn't when the cupping hand first touches the ball, when?]     2) The second step occurs after the first step when the other foot touches the floor, or both feet touch the floor simultaneously." Note that there is absolutely no mention of any "zero step". That last phrase I quoted ("both feet touch the floor simultaneously") is complete garbage as in reality nothing is truly simultaneous, but that (allegedly two-footed jump stops counting as one step) is a  discussion for a different day as it is anyway not relevant to Harden's steps 2 and 3 when he takes them as those do not pretend to be  simultaneous. But he does travel on that "double step back". And somtimes he simply doesn't get his "zero step" down before his gather. And the arm trick is sometimes an offensive foul. And sometimes he gets his legs into the defender's space in a successful effort to get an unjustified foul call. So, yes, Harden does break the rules. But even if the refs were acute enough to catch those it wouldn't make a huge difference, Mostly what he does is legal even if it shouldn't be.

I really like Jxmy's videos, but this was such a disappointment. Yes, his usual double stepback is legal. But very often he goes beyond the 0-1-2, steps to up to 0-1-2-3-4-5 making it even to shaqtin'a fool. Why not point out THOSE should at least be called? And I am not convinced about the under-arm thing being legal - or in any case whether it should be legal, it's just a flop from my PoV. Lastly the comparison of free throws to Jordan is a disservice to the sport. I mean Jordan was physically pounded by multiple opponents to get those fouls...

This is one of the reasons I don't watch the NBA anymore. Between the flopping, traveling and constant arguing with the refs the game has lost all meaning. You say that he is that good while also saying that you would be laughed at if you pulled the Euro step or step back on any playground in the US. So what you are saying is that the NBA is completely different than any pick up game you will play because of the rules and to me that makes the game unwatchable. It means the game is not one I can relate to or really care to. Anyone can argue if these changes are good or bad for the game but as a viewer they make me uninterested. I don't want to watch a game to see who can manipulate the rules most, I want to watch to see who can play a better game. The fact the NBA hasn't addressed an offensive player hooking the arm of a defender, dragging them along and throwing the ball toward the hoop to draw a foul is proof it isn't about the integrity of the game and is just a joke. Again, a pick up game should literally be the judge on these things. If someone pulled a move like that on the playground they would likely be throwing blows quickly.

And this is why no one is watching basketball. The NBA has made the game so easy that it's no longer fun to watch. It's obvious they looked at Jordan's history and assumed people loved watching him because he scored a lot. Not really. They loved watching him score a lot against Bird, against Rodman, against real defense. If Harden is getting mauled in the paint or taking hard contact during the game, this rule doesn't hurt the game. It's fine. But if you've literally made basketball no contact AND allowed players like this three steps, it's not basketball anymore. It's fucking stupid. But don't take my word for it, take last year's finals where people flipped the channel for the first time in 35 years. A this point, it's like watching a game of horse. Defensive players are afraid to breathe. And contact is actually injuring a lot of these pansy younger players because they're not used to it. Luka's straining his neck on a double team just because he's never seen one. Anthony Davis can't take a tap without spraining something. Time to go back to the drawing board and make the NBA the NBA again.

The Gospel: We sin against God and for our sins we deserve hell. We fall short of God’s perfect standard for heaven. But the good news is we have a way to be forgiven, that way is through Jesus. Because he loved the world, he came to earth, lived a sinless life then died on the cross for our sins, paying the price which is death. He was buried and rose again on the third day. Through Jesus we can be forgiven of our sins. If we put our faith in him we will be saved ✝️❤️
